Ce barbican à collier a éte photographié à la sortie du nid à Berg en dal.Son habitat est la savane boisée,la lisiére des forêts ainsi que les jardins plantés de grands arbres.Il se nourrit principalement de fruits et de baies,sans négliger de gros insectes.Il niche dans un trou qu'il creuse et peut utiliser plusieurs années de suite. photo barbican à collier

Vivant dans les forêts claires et les savanes herbeuses,ce calao est un grand marcheur qui parcourt jusqu'à dix lilométres par jour.Il se nourrit en capturant ses proies au sol.Son menu est constitué de rongeurs,serpents,reptiles,batraciens et gros insectes.Une de ses caract"ristiques est de se déplacer en volant vers les feux de brousse pour capturer les animaux fuyant l'incendie. photo calao

Encore une observation faite dans le camp de Satara!C'est un oiseau trés courant que l'on observe aussi bien en ville que dans les zones rurales.Son aire de répartition couvre toute l'Afrique à l'exception de la zone de forêtpuvieuse et du sahara.Elle est proche entant qu'espéce de notre tourterelle des bois qui niche en Afrique du nord et hiverne dans le Sahel. photo tourterelle maillée
